The short version
Klippit is a local-only desktop app. Your recordings live on your Mac. We don't run servers that hold your screen content. We don't ship analytics or telemetry. The only times Klippit talks to the internet are to check for updates and to validate your licence key.
Who we are
Klippit is an independent Mac app, developed and operated from the United Kingdom. You can reach us at [email protected].
What the app stores on your Mac
- Your recordings, screenshots, and GIFs in
~/Movies/Klippit/. - Per-recording metadata (title, tags, collection) in JSON sidecar files alongside each recording.
- Your app preferences (default capture options, keyboard shortcuts) in macOS UserDefaults under
com.klippit.app. - Your licence key, if you've purchased, in the macOS Keychain under
com.klippit.app.license.
All of this is local-only. None of it is uploaded to any server.
What goes over the network
- Update checks. Once a day, Klippit fetches
https://klippit.app/appcast.xmlto see if a new version is out. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) logs the IP address making the request, as is standard for any web traffic. We do not associate IPs with users or licences. - Licence validation. When you enter a licence key, Klippit sends the key to our payments provider (Paddle.com) to confirm it's valid. Paddle holds your purchase record — name, email, country, payment method, transaction details. Their privacy policy is at paddle.com/legal/privacy.
- The marketing website you're reading. Cloudflare logs basic web traffic. We do not run third-party trackers, analytics, or ad pixels on this site.
macOS permissions
- Screen Recording — required to capture your screen. Granted via System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Microphone — only requested if you toggle "Capture microphone" on. Not used otherwise.
Crash reporting
Klippit does not collect crash reports by default. If a future version introduces opt-in crash reporting (e.g. via Sentry), it will be explicitly disclosed in the app's onboarding screen and turned off by default.
Cookies
This website does not set cookies. The Paddle checkout, which loads on the pricing page, sets cookies strictly necessary to complete your purchase.
Your rights (UK GDPR)
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold about you (which, in practice, is the purchase record held by Paddle). Email [email protected] and we'll respond within 30 days.
Changes to this policy
Material changes will be announced in the changelog and on the home page. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent edit.
